Last week, life as I know it retreated to a small dark trailer conference room outside the fenceline of a VERY exciting refinery in the metropolis of Toledo, Ohio. Okay, well, to be more accurate it wasn’t actually in Toledo but near it. That counts, right? And I shall be spending an additional 3 weeks in this lovely setting throughout the summer (I hear you singing a little “Glamorous, Glamorous” right now…you can’t hide it from me).
Then, on Saturday, I got into a little big fight with the bike path and lost. Big time. So much so that I am visiting an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow to discuss the fracture in my humerus. Humerous, huh?! Ahahahaha - that joke is going to get old rrrrreally fast, but I might as well use it while it’s still young. Oh yep, and because I was clipped into the pedals of my little friend, The Green Bean, I have a pretty sweet case of road rash on the right side. See ya next year, Mr. June 13 triathlon.
After all of this, I can’t help but be thankful. My crash could have been a LOT worse. I could have far more painful injuries than a fracture + scrapes and bruises. I am not in severe pain and have been surviving quite well on just a little ibuprofen. Also, my job is really great. I have been given far more responsibility than ever before and am really enjoying it. Time to show my guns. Totally kidding. But, it is nice to know that I am totally responsible for a project. If it works, kudos, and if not, well then I better have a damn good reason why. Shooting for the former. We shall see how that works out.
Finally, it is SUMMER IN CHICAGO. We just experienced two 90 degree days, and while I’m thankful for the sunshine, I don’t survive (merely tolerate) the freezing winters to spend my whole summer hanging out in a sauna. No. Thank. You. In August? Sure. In May? No way, Jose.
No more typing. Arm hurts. Must reserve energy and patience for work. In the meantime, oh 70 degrees please return to me…ASAP!
